It is with profound sadness that the Motueka cricket community announces the passing of TK Hadzhikostov, a beloved young player whose vibrant spirit and dedication touched everyone around him. TK’s unexpected death on Saturday, March 7th, has left a deep void in the hearts of teammates, coaches, friends, and family. As we grieve this tremendous loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life of a boy whose passion for cricket and joyful personality made him a true inspiration.
TK Hadzhikostov was known across the club as one of the coolest kids on the field. Always proudly wearing his treasured number 12 club shirt, he exemplified dedication and love for the game. From his very first Friday night cricket session three years ago, TK committed himself fully to the sport. Whether at training, matches, or practicing at home with his mum, TK’s enthusiasm was contagious. His passion for cricket was evident in everything he did — from dressing up as a cricket player at school’s dress-up day to eagerly sharing his excitement about moving into a new house with a backyard where he could practice whenever he wanted.
TK’s love for cricket extended beyond just playing; he was an integral part of the Motueka Cricket Club’s community. Known for his bright smile and positive attitude, TK was often seen wearing his #12 club top with pride. His dedication and love for the game inspired many young players around him, and he was always eager to learn and improve.
This season marked a special milestone for TK, as he was part of the club’s first-ever machine ball cricket team. Playing “proper” cricket with his teammates brought TK immense joy and a sense of belonging. His teammates and coaches often spoke about how happy and fulfilled he was when on the field — cricket truly was his happy place. One of his most memorable experiences was when the Central Stags and Central Hinds visited their club earlier this year. TK was thrilled to get the opportunity to play with these professional players, and he was especially excited when he managed to catch one of them out.
TK’s passing is a heartbreaking loss to the Motueka cricket community. His infectious enthusiasm, unwavering dedication, and bright personality will be deeply missed. The club and all who knew him are committed to honoring his memory and celebrating his life. As a community, we are united in grief but also in gratitude for having known such a wonderful young boy who brought so much joy into our lives.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to TK’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We share in their sorrow and offer our support in any way we can. TK Hadzhikostov’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest peacefully, young cricket star.
